The purpose of this workshop is to envision how MUSICultures might serve both IASPM-Canada and CSTM. It was requested and endorsed by the Editorial Board. MUSICultures has been the scholarly journal of CSTM since its inception in 1973. But CSTM and IASPM-Canada are currently exploring the desirability and viability of making the journal a benefit to IASPM-Canada members as well as CSTM members. There are many good reasons to pursue this opportunity, including expanding the pool of potential readers, authors, and journal personnel, while creating a valuable member benefit for IASPM-Canada and reducing the financial burden on CSTM. But there are obviously challenges to sharing a journal as well. In this session, we will facilitate a conversation around three primary topics: personnel, content/vision, and governance structures/policies. We will consider how best to involve personnel from both societies in the creation and management of the journal, how to develop mutually relevant content and how to incorporate content that may be of more interest to one society than the other, and how to create governance structures and society policies to support our vision of an equitably shared and sustainable journal. This session will be co-facilitated by the current journal editor, Heather Sparling; a former CSTM president, editorial board member, and special issue guest editor, Kaley Mason; and a current editorial board member, a former special issues guest editor, and a former book review editor with Journal of the Society for American Music, Christina Baade.
