21st Inuit Studies Conference

October 3-6, 2019, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The organizing committee of the 21st Inuit Studies Conference is pleased to announce the Call for Papers and the Call for Proposals. The University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) will host the conference in Montreal from October 3rd to 6th, 2019.

We invite Elders, knowledge-bearers, community advocates, teachers, researchers, artists, policy-makers, students and others to submit proposals for individual or group presentations. In addition, we invite proposals for thematic sessions, roundtables, panel discussions, workshops, and seminars on specific topics of interest, as well as for cultural activities, exhibits, and performances. The Inuit Studies Conference is an international and multidisciplinary conference showcasing both Inuit traditional knowledge and expertise as well as academic research from a wide variety of disciplines on topics relating to Inuit peoples and the Inuit homeland.

This year’s conference theme is Tukisiqattautiniq “Understanding Each Other”. The organizing committee particularly welcomes proposals that encourage understanding and dialogue between peoples and generations. This year’s conference logo extends the theme of understanding to the natural world.

Anyone interested in submitting an abstract for a presentation or in organizing a thematic session, roundtable, panel discussion, workshop, seminar, exhibit, or performance should send their proposal to the organizers of the conference no later than the extended deadline of March 15, 2019. The programme committee will select the papers to be presented at the conference. The selections will be made public by April 7th.

Guidelines for talk or poster submissions

Proposals for individual or group presentations in all disciplines related to any aspect of Inuit Studies are invited. These talks will be 20 minutes in length, followed by 10 for questions and discussion. Presentations may be in English, French or Inuktitut or a combination of those languages. However, it should be noted that simultaneous translation cannot be provided at the conference. Submission should include the following information.

Title of the presentation
Format of the presentation (talk or poster)
Language(s) of the presentation
Short description of the presentation (maximum 250 words)
Biography of presenters (maximum 100 words)
Name and title of the presenters; home institution, affiliation or organization; phone number; and postal and email addresses

We kindly request that proposals for presentations in Inuktitut be accompanied by English or French translations of the information indicated above, if possible. Proposals for individual or group presentations should be forwarded to the organizing committee at inuitstudies2019@uqam.ca by March 15, 2019. Submissions should be sent as e-mail attachments in Word or PDF format. Accepted presentations will be announced by April 7th, 2019.

The program committee invites proposals for thematic sessions, roundtable or panel discussions, workshops, or seminars. These activities may take place in English, French or Inuktitut or a combination of those languages. However, it should be noted that simultaneous translation cannot be provided at the conference.

<h1>2e Appel à communications et appel à propositions </h1><h2>21e Congrès d’Études Inuit</h2>Du 3 au 6 octobre 2019 à Montréal, Québec, Canada Le comité d’organisation du 21e Congrès d’Études Inuit est heureux d’annoncer l’appel à communication et l’appel à propositions. L’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) accueillera cet événement à Montréal du 3 au 6 octobre 2019. Nous invitons les Ainés, les détenteurs du savoir traditionnel, les intervenants communautaires, les enseignants, les chercheurs, les artistes, les décideurs politiques, les étudiants et autres à soumettre une proposition pour une présentation individuelle ou collective. De plus, nous invitons les propositions pour des sessions thématiques, des tables rondes, des panels de discussions, des ateliers, des séminaires sur des sujets d’intérêts spécifiques, ainsi que des activités culturelles, des expositions et des performances. Le Congrès d’Études Inuit est une conférence internationale et multidisciplinaire présentant en tandem les connaissances traditionnelles et les expertises des Inuit ainsi que les recherches universitaires provenant de diverses disciplines portant sur les personnes Inuit et leur territoire.
