Inuktitut-French-English Lexicon Launch

The launch event will unveil a unique resource in Inuktitut.

Lexicon: Work began on creating this lexicon in 1984 as part of the Inuit teacher training activities of the Ivujivik-Puvirnituq-UQAT group. Right from the start, when taking their first courses, the students engaged in the teacher training had trouble fully understanding the course content. They had a deep and extensive knowledge of their mother tongue, but they struggled with specialized non-existant words about education and they felt the need to develop Inuktitut terminology in relation to the content of each course. Thus, over the years, Inuit resource people who were proficient in the Inuktitut language and academics from different fields of education have worked to produce an Inuktitut Lexicon in Education for use by Inuit students involve in the teacher training, co-teachers, and professors.
