Nathan Schlanger, professeur d'archéologie à l'École nationale des chartes est archéologue et historien de l'archéologie et des sciences sociales. Après une formation en Angleterre (Ph.D. Cambridge, post-doc Oxford), il rejoint en 2000 l'Institut national d'histoire de l'art (INHA) pour la coordination scientifique du projet européen AREA (Archives of European archaeology). En 2005, il est recruté à l'Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (INRAP) en charge de la mission "Recherche et développement international". A la suite de son HDR (2012), il intègre l'équipe de recherche de l'École du Louvre. Ses principaux thèmes de recherche portent sur : archéologie, technologie, culture matérielle ; histoire et archives de l'archéologie, en contextes européens et coloniaux ; politiques des patrimoines et archéologie préventive, en France et à l'international. Parmi les publications récentes auxquels il a participé: La Préhistoire des autres. Perspectives archéologiques et anthropologiques (La Découverte, 2012) ; Marcel Mauss. Techniques, technologie et civilisation (PUF 2012) ; European Archaeology Abroad. Global Settings, Comparative Perspectives (Sidestone Press, 2013) ; Les intraduisibles du patrimoine en Afrique subsaharienne (avec, B. Cassin, D. Wozny, V. Negri, H. Bocoum et al., Demopolis 2014).
