Dr Areti Galani is a lecturer in Museum and Heritage Studies in the department of Media, Culture, Heritage, at Newcastle University, UK. Areti holds qualifications in both Museology (MA) and Computing Science (PhD) and has curated projects in Greece and the UK. Areti co-led the ‘Rock Art on Mobile Phones’ project (AHRC-funded), which created 3 web apps for rock art sites in rural UK. She also supervised the first museological PhD on meaning making processes on flickr The Commons. She is currently an academic partner in the ERASMUS+ funded project: Active Ageing and Heritage in Adult Learning in Museums (2014-2017).  Areti is an investigator in the Horizon2020-funded project CoHERE (2016-19), which examines the role of heritage in the construction of European identity.
