2026 Annual Conference of the Observatoire de la Philanthropie «Philanthropy 3.0: How new trends are changing the game!»

April 30, 2026, 9:00 AM - April 30, 2026, 4:00 PM

Montréal, Quebec, Canada

Introduction

This year, the annual conference of the Observatoire de la Philanthropie «Philanthropy 3.0: How new trends are changing the game!» offers an in-depth reflection on contemporary transformations in the sector in the era of philanthropy 3.0. This concept refers to a recent evolution in philanthropic practices, made possible by the integration of new-generation digital technologies such as blockchain, smart contracts, generative artificial intelligence, and the optimization of corporate philanthropy strategies.

After Philanthropy 1.0, which was largely centered on traditional private foundations and marked by power asymmetries and a lack of accountability, and Philanthropy 2.0, which was driven by the rise of digital platforms and increased stakeholder participation, Philanthropy 3.0 represents a paradigm shift. It promises greater transparency, better traceability of donations, and broader access to information, while raising new ethical issues, particularly related to the use of artificial intelligence and the risks of dehumanization in the sector.

Through this conference, the Observatoire de la Philanthropie aims to provide a space for dialogue and critical reflection on these changes, bringing together researchers and practitioners to discuss issues of governance, public interest funding, social innovation, and societal legitimacy. Presentations may focus on, but are not limited to, the influence of artificial intelligence on philanthropy, the organization and governance of the sector, strategic philanthropy, philanthropic communication in the age of AI, corporate philanthropy, new forms of giving, traceability, corporate social responsibility, and the evaluation of the concrete effects of philanthropic activities.

This conference aims to be an inclusive and interdisciplinary space, encouraging the participation of researchers and professionals from all backgrounds in the philanthropic field who specialize in CSR, corporate philanthropy, business ethics, management, marketing, sociology, economics, and political science. We are convinced that the diversity of perspectives will enrich the debates and contribute to a deeper understanding of the issues related to philanthropy in today's world.
