The inclusion of Indigenous students at the college level is a major challenge. To implement measures to promote the perseverance and academic success of this student community, it is important to better understand its characteristics and needs.

This presentation is based on data from the Enquête sur la réussite à l’enseignement collégial (SPEC 1), conducted in fall 2021 by ÉCOBES (Centre d'étude des conditions de vie et des besoins de la population), CRISPESH (Centre de recherche pour l'inclusion des personnes en situation de handicap) and IRIPII (Institut de recherche sur l'intégration professionnelle des immigrants), in collaboration with the Fédération des cégeps, and funded by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur. It paints an unprecedented portrait of the characteristics and needs of Indigenous college students: personal and ethnocultural characteristics, values and fields of interest, educational pathways and vocational choices, motivation to undertake college studies, challenges and needs related to educational success, type of support required.
