Lucy Szemetová is a PhD student at the Department of Film Studies, University of St Andrews. Her research interrogates the relationship between memory politics and audio-visual archives, with a particular focus on the reuse of archival footage in documentary films. Her doctoral dissertation explores the dialogues between historical preservation and appropriation in filmmaking across three different political contexts in Hungary. She has previously worked as an assistant AV archivist for the Blinken Open Society Archives, Budapest – cataloguing the Private Photo and Film Foundation’s textual records - and is about to start an internship at the Hungarian National Film Archive to process the documents of the Balázs Béla Studio.
