Lola Rémy is a PhD candidate in Film and Moving Image Studies at Concordia University, Montreal. Her research focuses on the institutions and people that funded, exhibited, and archived experimental cinema. Her dissertation investigates and contextualizes the formation of a post-war universalist discourse as expressed in experimental film practices of assemblage. She offers a decolonizing perspective on the appropriation of Indigenous artefacts and imagery, at the core of this discourse. Her publications have centred on archives as sites of cultural encounters, racial and gendered violence, but also of reappropriation and contestation by communities and artists. Her work has been published in the journals NECSUS European Journal of Media Studies, Frames Cinema Journal, and Synoptique, A Journal of Film and Moving Image Studies.
