Indiana University
I am Associate Professor of French Studies and History at Indiana University, Bloomington (USA), where I have taught since 2011. My primary field of research is twentieth-century French and European film, with a focus on various genres of cinema (fiction, newsreels, documentaries) as tools of social and political discourse. I have published widely on the work of Marcel Pagnol (monograph with Manchester University Press, 2011), Jean Renoir, French and German film during the Second World War, and anti-colonial French filmmaking. My current research project is a book manuscript on French media (film, radio, and television) as tools both of state policy and resistance to that policy during the Algerian War.
