John Shiga
John Shiga is an Associate Professor in the School of Professional Communication at in The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). He teaches courses on urban media, cross-cultural communication, knowledgetranslation, science communication, and communication for social change. He has published widely in the fields of media studies, legal studies, sound studies and environmental humanities. His research interests include technology and music cultures; sound and intellectual property; media and the environment; sonification; and arts-based knowledge mobilization. He is currently working on a cultural history of sonar which focuses on the role of acoustic sensing in the context of Cold War nuclear imperialism.
