I have researched the process of constructing collective memory from the perspective of media and journalism theory. Currently, I am mainly interested in the following three perspectives.

(1) Sociological analysis about the construction process of media memory through media experience/practice theory

I am theoretically analyzing the construction process of collective memory in contemporary media society through media experience and practice theory, referring to the arguments of Roger Silverstone, Nick Culdry, and others.

(2) Bridging Collective Memory Theory and Journalism Theory

Bridging collective memory theory and journalism theory, I will analyze the function of journalism in the social construction process of memory. I aim to grasp the research trends of Barbie Zelizer and Michael Schudson, as well as to develop the theory of collective memory after Maurice Halbwachs from the perspective of journalism theory.

(3) Empirical studies about the Asia-Pacific War Memory

My main empirical fields are related to the Asia-Pacific War. First, I have tried to understand the relations between Chiran Peace Museum and local journalism in Kagoshima prefecture. Second, I have focused on the NHK War Testimony Archives and analyze the dialogue between NHK reporters and war survivors. Third, I have dealt with the issue of the Heisei Tennō’s “memorial visit” and the remembrance of the Battle of Manila.
