Ah, Lofoten! This arctic island archipelago off the coast of Norway harbors emerald fjords, icy waters and beaches where folk linger to bathe in the midnight sun. Pristine. Stunning. Magic. Norway. But something else lingers here, the alluring scent of money perhaps, as municipalities here turn to nature-based tourism to grow local economies. Tourism to Lofoten has exploded in recent years, and especially to the newly formed Lofotodden National Park on one of the southern islands. This talk addresses one consequence of increased tourism to the national park: the accumulation of human feces, what we can do about it, and one researcher’s journey in navigating Norwegian nature and immigration governance in her new home.
