A graduate in history from the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (2004) and social sciences from that same university (2009), Gabriel da Silva Vidal Cid holds a doctorate in sociology from the Instituto de Estudos Sociais e Políticos da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (IESP/UERJ), and a master’s in city and regional planning from the Instituto de Pesquisa e Planejemento Urbano e Regional da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IPPUR/UFRJ). Specialized in both sociology and history, with an emphasis on the sociology of culture, his research deals with the following topics: African-Brazilian memory, cultural heritage, popular cultural practices, and cultural policies.
