Silvio Oksman obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture and urbanism from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Universidade de São Paulo (FAU-USP). His PhD, now in progress at the same institution, deals with heritage preservation and is entitled Preservation and Reconstruction: Contradictions in the Safeguard of Modern Architecture (provisional title). He collaborated on projects with Eduardo Colonelli and Paulo Mendes da Rocha; in 2011, he founded the office Oksman Associated Architects; with his partners, he created several projects focusing mainly on heritage preservation. Since 2013, he is the representative of the Architects Institute of Brazil (IAB) in the Conselho Municipal de Preservação do Patrimônio (CONPRESP) and Conselho de Defesa do Patrimônio Histórico Arqueológico, Artístico e Turístico (CONDEPHAAT), heritage preservation councils of the municipality and State of São Paulo, respectively. He recently became one of the Brazilian representatives in the Cultural Identity – Architectural Heritage Group of the International Union of Architects (UIA). Since 2009, he is professor at the Escola da Cidade – School of Architecture and Urbanism, in the Vertical Studio.
