Amalia Kotsaki, professor at the Technical University of Crete, is chairing this session devoted to the rediscovery of neglected territories, both in the spatial and symbolic sense. Taking into account heritages hitherto little explored by tourism is creating original heritage dynamics that the presenters in this session are keen to explore. Kallipoli Rapti describes action research into the tourism of World War II historical sites in Crete, questioning the place of this recent memory in tourist itineraries. Myriam Oumheta offers a reading of the patrimonialization of industrial heritage in northern France, from indifference to recognition as a world heritage site. Sahar Ghasemshahi also examines industrial heritage in Detroit (USA), which, in its interactions with underground cultural scenes, is becoming a tourist object. Beatriz Andreotti questions the urban dynamics of a former industrial zone in Sao Paulo, between one-off interventions by artists linked to the industrial past, large-scale construction projects sweeping away heritages and interstices occupied by the inhabitants themselves.
