Using nanopore-based sequencing technology — developed for real-time, accurate, accessible, and scalable analysis of DNA and RNA — it’s possible to gain a more comprehensive picture of human genomic variation than ever before. Long and ultra-long fragments sequenced using nanopore span large structural variants and repetitive regions, enabling isoform-level expression analyses, and accurate calling and phasing of variants and epigenetic modifications. A range of nanopore sequencing devices are available: from the portable, hand-held MinION and Flongle devices, to the high-throughput GridION and ultra-high-throughput PromethION sequencers, ideal for larger projects and population-scale studies.
