Compound-specific isotope analyses are done in our lab using the GC-IRMS coupled with a combustion reactor (for d13C) or a high-temperature conversion reactor (for d2H). The standards n-Alkane Mixture Type A6 and Fatty Acid Ester Mixture F8-3 are used to calibrate the d13C and d2H of alkanes and fatty acids, respectively. We needed house standards, which were relatively large in quantity, to run along with samples. We extracted and purified different lipid fractions from maple leaves. Then, we added synthetic components to make good ratios of peaks. We faced some problems during this process.
