Tracing the history and concepts behind present-day legislation, the paper likewise outlines future problems should these antiquated concepts not be rectified. Through an exploration of the situation in Australia, this paper will question how we can rethink heritage principles and practices, in line with living memory and documentation, as well as issues of originality and authenticity.
