Paul Smith, notes biographiques Historien de formation, diplômé (Ph.D.) de l’université de Cambridge, Paul Smith est retraité depuis 2018. Auparavant, de 1986 à 2018, il a été chargé de mission à la Direction générale des Patrimoines au ministère français de la Culture, avec des responsabilités de chercheur, de coordinateur de recherches et de formation dans les domaines du patrimoine industriel et du patrimoine des mobilités. Sous l’égide du ministère français, il a participé à plusieurs projets européens dans ces secteurs. Il est membre d’un comité de patrimoine industriel et technique au sein de l’ONG Europa Nostra, membre de longue date de l’association française sur le patrimoine industriel, le CILAC, qu’il représente auprès du TICCIH et dont il est aujourd’hui le secrétaire général. Il a publié de nombreux articles sur les patrimoines des différentes industries sur lesquels il a été amené à travailler (tabacs, allumettes, automobile, aviation, chemins de fer...) et il est l’auteur, avec Jean-François Belhoste et le photographe Pierre-Olivier Deschamps, du livre Architectures et paysages industriels, l'invention d'un patrimoine, Paris, 2012.
