Mads Daugbjerg is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Aarhus University. His main research concerns issues related to heritage, museums and tourism, especially in connection to former sites of war and conflict, and to the powers and problems of the idea of historical ‘experience’. He is also involved with the research component of the City of Aarhus’ preparation for becoming European Cultural Capital in 2017, currently directing a pilot study of the industrial heritage traces at Aarhus harbour and its potentials. Earlier, he has co-steered a multi-partner development project with the Danish tourism authorities on bicycle tourism. Mads’ publications include several articles in The International Journal of Heritage Studies (including a co-edited special issue on ‘Reenacting the Past’, 2014), in Museum and Society, and in History and Anthropology (co-editing a special issue on ‘Globalized Heritage’, 2011). His first monograph, entitled Borders of Belonging: Experiencing History, War and Nation at a Danish Heritage Site, came out from Berghahn Books in 2014.
