Mike Paul is an Ilnu songwriter born on the shores of Pekuakami Lake, in Mashteuiatsh. Winner of 2 awards at the 2022 Indigenous Superstar Awards, in the categories of Best Rock Album and Best Indigenous Language Album with his new album, Ashuapmushuan. He is among the nominated for the North American Indigenous Music Award in 2022 as well as the Canadian Folk Music Award and Indigenous Music Awards in 2019. He is a major figure in the Indigenous music community where he has been working for 30 years. The friendly Wolverine (Kuekuatsheu) brings us new rhythmic, rich and diverse songs with his new show Nutshimit, a single to be released in 2024, and a new album in 2025, Guidé par la rivière et l’esprit des vents. His voice resonates throughout the universe for the protection of living things on assi (Earth) and for pride in the age-old culture of his hunter-gatherer Ilnu people. The recipient of the 2019 Impulse CALQ scholarship offers us beautiful Indigenous music, innovative folk rock and traditional sounds in the Ilnu, French and English languages that take us on a journey into the heart of Nutshimit (inland) and the myths and legends of the First Peoples. Mike is a self-employed worker, a committed artist producer, an example of perseverance and success in the field. His shows and songs tour globally, he has built a solid reputation with recognized peers in the industry and internationally! 

 

Mike has performed in Brittany, France, USA, Canada, Manitoba, Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick. He has participated in many live TV shows, including TAM 1 and 3, Makusham, the Sortir and La petite séductionprograms on Radio-Canada, 2018 INDIGENOUS DAY LIVE, in Ottawa. He has composed soundtracks for television shows, including Mishkuenita on APTN, and Le diable de la Côte-Nord in 2022. He was a finalist for the Prix Objectif Scène twice as a songwriter. Mike is also a storyteller and speaker on First Peoples culture.
