Le positionnement épistémologique du colloque s'ancre dans l'approche de l'historien Dipesh Chakrabarty (2009)selon laquelle l’Anthropocène marquerait « l’effondrement de la vieille distinction humaniste entre histoire naturelle et histoire humaine » : désormais, l’humain ferait autant la première que la seconde. Cette position est partagée par Bruno Latour (2015), pour qui le temps de l’Anthropocène est celui de la fusion entre ces deux histoires.
De ce positionnement quatre axes de recherche ont été dégagés:
01. Habiter la Terre à l’époque de l’Anthropocène
En quoi la géographie de l’Anthropocène peut-elle contribuer au développement de la résilience face aux risques et aux catastrophes? Doit-on accorder une valeur intrinsèque à la nature? Comment l’Anthropocène nous amène-t-elle à réfléchir l’interconnexion des crises au 21e siècle? Comment la géographie peut-elle participer à l’élaboration d’un cadre pour protéger mondialement la nature et ses ressources à l’horizon de 2050 ?
02. Géographie, développement et éthiques environnementales
La géographie toujours une science sociale à l’Ère de l’Époque humaine ou de l’Anthropocène? La distinction entre géographie humaine (histoire humaine) et géographie physique (histoire naturelle) est-elle toujours pertinente pour la géographie? Quels apports pour les sciences sociales de lier féminisme et géographie ?
03. Épistémologie de la géographie de l’Anthropocène
Qu’en est-il de la redéfinition de la pratique et de la théorie géographique à l’ère de cette nouvelle époque géologique? Qu’en est-il de la lecture du monde et des territoires qu’apporte la géographie avec l’avènement de Anthropocène? Comment l’Anthropocène permet-il un débat renouvelé sur les « valeurs » humaines face à la nature?
04.Territorialités et représentations socioécologiques
Comment les traceurs ou marqueurs biophysiques employés en géographie physique peuvent-il être mobilisés pour réfléchir l’aménagement durable des territoires? Quelles sont les formes et la nature des territorialités renouvelées qui pourraient être produites? Comment positionner les territorialités autochtones dans le débat de la géographie ?
