Michael Bianchi es profesor y estudiante de doctorado en la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Lieja. Tras haber ejercido la arquitectura durante 25 años, ahora enseña diseño en el curso de máster "Territoire, Espace, Lieu" y desarrolla una tesis en el laboratorio "ndrscrLab/Architecture et Politique", bajo el patrocinio de Eric Le Coguiec.
Su investigación se centra en el imaginario de la ciudad contemporánea, dividido entre las orientaciones del capitalismo tardío, el crecimiento de las desigualdades y el aumento de la conciencia ecológica. Su tesis moviliza estas cuestiones en relación con la evolución actual y futura de la ciudad industrial, con la ciudad de Charleroi (Bélgica) como estudio de caso.
