The following checklist summarizes important information for presenters. You're also invited to consult this short video summing up important points for presenters. Please contact us at nelsconference51@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Important dates

  • October 25: Deadline for non-anonymized abstract submission
  • October 30: Prerecorded talks submission deadline.
  • November 1: Deadline for handout/slides submission
  • November 3 – 5: Preconference technical checkup. Sign up with this here Doodle: https://doodle.com/poll/c9sxvgywpkr2sc5c
  • November 6 – 8: NELS 51

Please note that beyond October 25th, we will link your anonymized abstract to the conference website. Also note that past November 1st we will not be able to guarantee that your visual material will be online at the beginning of the conference.

Live talks

Before the session(see the PDF program)

  1. Register to the conference (mandatory but some options are free)
  2. Submit your non-anonymized abstract
  3. Submit your handout/slides
  4. Make sure you have the Zoom link and password to your session. Passwords will be sent to you by email a couple of days before the conference.
  5. Familiarize yourself with Zoom. Having doubts? Attend the Preconference technical checkup (please sign up there: https://doodle.com/poll/c9sxvgywpkr2sc5c)

15 minutes before the start of the session

  1. Login to the session Zoom meeting. The Technical Assistant will let you in from the waiting room 15 minutes before the start of the session.
  2. You should be listed as " co-host"
  3. Verify that screen sharing is turned on and functional. Activate Audio share and optimization for video sharing if necessary.
  4. Advise the session chair of your timekeeping preferences.
  5. Test everything you need to before the session no matter if you’re first or last.
  6. If there’s anything ask the Technical Assistant.

During the talk

  1. Well, talk!
  2. The chat function will be disabled during your presentation to prevent unwanted distractions, questions will have to wait to the Q&A.

During the Q&A

  1. The session chair will keep track of questions: participants who wrote “I have a question” or a variant of it will be invited to speak, whereas written questions will be read by the session chair (or yourself).
  2. Collaborate with the chair on moderating questions. Look for raised hands and questions in the chat.

Prerecorded talks

Please send us your prerecorded talks via the file transfer service of your choice (e.g. WeTransfer, Sync, Dropbox) by email to nelsconference51@gmail.com no later than October 30th.

After your talk

Transport the discussion to the conference's Discord server. If you wish, set up your own Zoom meeting at your convenience to chat about your research with interested participant. That's especially relevant for flash talks given their nature.
