Jean-François est titulaire d'une maîtrise en sciences géographiques de l'Université Laval (2014) et travaille depuis 2017 comme professionnel de recherche au sein de l'équipe de Patrick Lajeunesse. Il s'intéresse principalement aux enjeux d'aménagement du territoire liés à la dynamique sédimentaire dans le tronçon fluvial du fleuve Saint-Laurent en utilisant une approche SIG et de télédétection. Il a été en charge de réaliser un projet de caractérisation riveraine du Saint-Laurent fluvial entre 2017-2020. Depuis 2020, il continue de documenter les enjeux d'érosion et d'occupation du territoire en milieu riverain par le biais d'un projet de suivi de l'érosion basé sur l'utilisation de drones et de données hydrométéorologiques.
