Call for Papers

The 32nd Annual Conference of the International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics (IAFPA) will take place in Montreal, Canada, July 28-31, 2024.

We invite proposals for papers on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Speaker/voice comparison
  • Speech and audio enhancement
  • Transcription
  • Speaker profiling
  • Questioned utterance analysis
  • Authentication of recordings
  • LADO (Language Analysis for the Determination of Origin)
  • Automatic speaker recognition/comparison
  • Voice line-ups
  • Retrieval of population data
  • Exceptional case reports
  • Method validation and proficiency testing

Abstract details

Length: maximum 500 words, excluding title and references; figures may be included, but the document should not exceed two pages. Please use this template (DOCX) and ensure that keywords are included. Please send all abstract submissions to iafpa2024@uqam.ca.

Students should indicate whether their paper should be considered for the Best Student Paper awards. The criteria for eligibility are:

  • the first author is a student; i.e. registered as a Bachelors/Masters/PhD student.
  • the first author presents their presentation/poster in person at the conference.
  • the majority of the work presented has been done by the student.

Note that being a student member of IAFPA is not a requirement.

  • Deadline for oral papers and posters: March 31, 2024
  • Deadline for work-in-progress posters: May 15, 2024
  • Notification of acceptance for oral papers and posters: Early May 2024
  • Notification of acceptance for work-in-progress posters: Late May 2024
