Mauricio Ruiz est doctorant en sémiologie à l'Université du Québec à Montréal. Ses recherches portent sur la patrimonialisation des aspects immatériels de la culture, plus particulièrement sur le cas de la fauconnerie : un patrimoine vivant reconnu par l'UNESCO depuis 2010. Il interroge également dans ses recherches le pouvoir et le rôle des livres dans la sauvegarde et transmission de pratiques culturelles dans une perspective qui combine la théorie sémiotique de Charles Sanders Peirce, l’anthropologie et l’histoire matérielle du livre. Il a publié récemment un article sur les enjeux du patrimoine culturel immatériel dans la revue « Muséologies » dans lequel il fait état des problématiques de nature sémiotiques liées à la sauvegarde et transmission de la fauconnerie par les dispositifs de représentation.
