Dr. Nigel Westbrook is Associate Professor in Architecture, Associate Dean (Research), and immediate past Discipline Chair of Architecture. He has been a member of staff since July 1993, teaching in the fields of design, architectural history and urban studies. His research interests include historic urban topography, Late Antique and Early Byzantine high-status and palatine architecture, the urban topography of Constantinople/ Istanbul as it is revealed through the construction of perspectival Renaissance urban prospects, notably the 1559 view by Melchior Lorichs, the use of digital methodologies in architectural history research, and postwar Iranian modern architecture. He completed his PhD on the architecture and topography of the early Great Palace of the Byzantine emperors, from Constantine I to Heraclius. The thesis was passed in 2013, and has been accepted for publication by Brepols for their series Architectural Crossroads. He is currently collaborating with the German
